Centre

The Centre for Family Business Law was founded in 2024. It is a research unit at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw that analyses family business regulations and legal instruments for the management and succession of family businesses.

Activities

The Centre is the only autonomous unit in Poland within the university structure of law faculties specialising in the field of family businesses. Its embedding at the university and its lack of direct connection with law or tax firms guarantees, firstly, a scientific and substantively in-depth research profile. Secondly, it ensures the independence and integrity of the research and its results due to the total absence of conflicts of interest, as the Centre has no ‘clients’ of its own for which it might be interested in supporting specific substantive solutions.

Research

Members and associates of the Centre have been conducting research in family business law and related fields for many years. Under the direction of Prof. Konrad Osajda, an ongoing research project entitled. ‘The Dead Hand. Private foundation as a multi-generational estate planning tool’ funded by the National Science Centre (grant OPUS no. 2021/41/B/HS5/00857). Members of the Centre are also active in an international project entitled. ‘Enterprise Foundations in Europe’ (dedicated to foundations as business owners) conducted within the European Law Institute.
